In a letter, Amazon top executive Jeff Bezos writes that extra jobs will be created at Amazon. According to Bezos, because of the corona crisis a lot more is being ordered, which in the short term will result in 100,000 extra jobs at Amazon. According to the top man, these jobs can be filled by the people who lost their jobs due to the corona crisis.

In the United States, restaurants and bars were closed last week in order to limit the spread of the virus. As a result, a large part of catering staff is suddenly out of work and income. According to Bezos, there is room for part of this group of people at Amazon.

According to Bezos, the webshop does everything in its power to deliver all orders on time and to get essential products such as disinfectants, baby food and medicines to the customer. Bezos thanked Amazon’s staff for their hard work over the past weeks and that he is not the only one who is grateful: “I have received hundreds of e-mails from customers and received messages via social media to thank you”.

Working safely

A lot of work at Amazon can’t be done from home, and that’s why the webshop is also experiencing problems due to the virus. Amazon had to close down a department store in New York before, after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.

Bezos emphasises in his letter that the company does everything in its power to ensure that employees can work safely. In his letter, Bezos stresses that the company makes every effort to ensure that employees can work safely, such as extra cleaning and employees must keep an appropriate distance from each other.
