Barracuda Networks has adopted the collision detection technology from InfiSecure Technologies. With this technology, the company wants to strengthen its recently announced Advanced Bot Protection.

Barracuda Networks announced its Advanced Bot Protection in June. The solution – which uses artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to protect against bots – is available for the Web Application Firewall (WAF) and WAF-as-a-Service.

The new combination of InfiSecure Technologies’ technology and the Global Threat Intelligence Infrastructure should ensure that the solution can also detect so-called low-and-slow bots. These bots very slowly retrieve data and often change their IP address. To detect the bots, special techniques are required.

Creating a profile

InfiSecure Technologies’ technology, which uses machine learning, profiles individual applications. This is necessary because every application is different and offers different and unique opportunities for bots. By profiling the applications, specific collisions that have been developed for different applications must also be recognised.

On the basis of the profile set up, the detection and protection is set up for the collisions that focus on specific applications.

Alain Luxembourg, Benelux regional director for Barracuda Networks, states that InfiSecure’s technology is a perfect complement to Advanced Bot Protection. The technology should also open up new possibilities for our WAF-as-a-Service and Web Application Firewalls.

Advanced Bot Protection

Advanced Bot Detection already contained several functions at launch. There is bot spam detection that referrer reduces spam and blocks spam via comments on websites. In addition, the solution detects automated login attempts.

The solution also detects automated login attempts, where bots try to take over accounts by automatically entering a whole list of captured login data. The Request Risk Scoring keeps track of incoming data requests and uses advanced behavioral analysis to detect attackers.

Finally, there is Client Finger Printing, which analyses clients. According to Barracuda, this method is more accurate than IP addresses.
