Gartner forecasts that the IT spending in EMEA will total $1.075 trillion in 2021. Compared to 2020, that is a 2.8% increase. The same analyst firm says that IT spending in the region will fall 6.5% this year.
Combining Brexit and the Covid-19 pandemic, most organizations have had to cut back on spending, even though this is the timeline that has seen an incredibly high number of cyberattacks.
John-David Lovelock, the research Veep at Gartner, says that many organizations were making a digital transformation before the pandemic hit. In the future, most organizations will benefit from increasing their IT spending.
Digital transformation needs to happen rapidly

Gartner analysts talked about the macroeconomics trends affecting the EMEA IT market during the Gartner IT Symposium/Xpo EMEA on Thursday.
2020 has no doubt seen organizations spending less when dealing with crises concerning lower consumer volume in many parts and the economic impact, which inevitably follows a pandemic like this one.
Some changes are here to stay
However, 2021 will see the numbers rise as people figure out how to go back to work. More money will be spent on IT to make sure that ordinarily easy tasks are digitized to maintain security and customer experience/engagement.
Most organizations will have to buy new devices to enable what they do, and that will mean that the spending next year will go from a 2020 decline of 15.1% to an increase of 1.7% in 2021.
The U.S. is expected to lead in remote working in 2021, with 52% of the workforce settling into the work-from-home culture.
