A teaser image has made its way to the internet, showing a Cloud PC offering that Microsoft has been talking about for a while now. The teaser was shared on Twitter by a user who mistakenly believed that the offering would be revealed during the recent Windows event.
The image shows what looks to be several panels for different virtual machines in a browser that has a distinctively Windows 11 look, complete with rounded corners and a blue-grey colour palette.
On the way?
The reason that the new offering looks likely, has to be the cloud pc website Microsoft set up. If you go to cloudpc.microsoft.com and try to sign up for a subscription, you will receive a notification saying that your organization doesn’t have a subscription to Cloud PC, along with traffic icons that usually represent that some work is in progress.
Microsoft is currently not saying much about the project codenamed ‘Project Deschutes’ since a ZDNet report from July 2020 confirmed that the project was being developed.
What the cloud pc could be like
The posting described Cloud PC as a strategic new offering that is built on top of Windows Virtual Desktop to deliver Desktop as a Service. At the core of the cloud pc business, customers will get a modern, elastic, cloud-based Windows experience. With that, organizations can stay current and simplify operations, communications and collaborations.
Cloud PC could be similar to the Azure VM offering but will reside in the Microsoft 365 system as a simpler solution that is more accessible to the average user.
