Apple is facing a production delay of the iPhone 12 of one to two months, according to Nikkei. The delay is caused by the shutdown of Chinese factories and offices at the beginning of this year due to the coronavirus.
The corona crisis has had major consequences for many manufacturers, including Apple. At the beginning of 2020, several factories in China had to be closed, and office workers in China and later in the United States were forced to work from home. According to Nikkei, the production of the iPhone 12 is also considerably delayed as a direct result. At this moment, Apple is looking at a delay of 1 to 2 months.
Three months ago there was still some discussion about the possibility that the iPhone 12 (with 5G) would not be released until 2021, but according to sources, Apple has worked hard in recent months to make up for this delay as much as possible. “What the progress looks like now is months of delay in terms of mass production, but Apple is doing everything it can to shorten the postponement. There’s a chance that the schedule could still be moved ahead,” according to a source.
Remote work is almost impossible
In addition to the production delay, the lockdown in the United States also caused a number of setbacks. Apple is now one of the few companies in Silicon Valley to have some of its staff back in the office because the company still needs to do some testing and this is nearly impossible to do at home efficiently. According to another source, people shouldn’t be surprised if the production of the iPhone continues to slow down, because “there are still a lot of tests going on now and the final designs have not yet been locked down.”

Since the iPhone 5, new versions of the iPhone have always been released in September, but due to the production delay, it could be October or even November when the iPhone 12 first sees the light of day.
