AI code quality is now being cast as a sub-discipline in and of itself in the agentic coding era; many would elevate it ab ove any notion of sub-status and argue that code quality (along with governance and compliance controls) is now a profession and skill base of its own. Working in this space is Qodo, with its newly detailed Agentic Toolbox, a suite of agent tools and skills designed to serve as the dedicated quality counterpart to AI coding agents.

A more consequential challenge
If we accept that the first wave of AI development tools accelerated code generation, autonomous coding agents now introduce a more consequential challenge for enterprises: engineering decisions are being delegated to agents that may not understand the system history, dependencies and organisational standards impacted by the code they are writing or changing.
This is where Qodo has drawn its market analysis and rationale for product development from i.e. these realities have created a need for an independent quality layer that can guide, review, and govern agent-generated changes before they introduce risk.

Context across repositories & pull request history
As coding agents work, they invoke Qodo’s specialised agents and tools, which draw context from across repositories, pull request history, specifications, and engineering standards to challenge plans and changes, identify risks, and validate fixes in real time. With the Qodo platform, engineering leaders define the standards, risk boundaries, and escalation policies under which agents operate, with consistent visibility across coding tools, repositories, and teams.

Key functions
Key functions and functionalities here mean that developers are given the power to understand before they make a change. They can examine architecture, dependencies, development history, and live code changes to understand how a proposed change could affect the wider system.
Engineers can also review code before the pull request i.e. they can run Qodo’s full review process on work in progress, including committed and uncommitted changes, so issues can be caught and resolved earlier. They can also act directly on review findings, and so retrieve structured findings from Qodo and use them to investigate and fix open issues within the coding session.
Friedman says users can apply standards from the start and give agents the relevant organisational rules before implementation begins, helping ensure the first draft reflects company expectations.
There’s also the ability to manage policies conversationally and allow authorised administrators to create, update, and apply organisational coding and review standards through natural-language instructions.
