Oracle makes ChatGPT the central hub for applications

The partnership between Oracle and OpenAI is expanding. In addition to providing the infrastructure that powers ChatGPT, the two companies are now also integrating at the software level.

Until now, the relationship between the two companies has primarily revolved around the provision and use of computing power. OpenAI is set to purchase approximately $300 billion worth of Oracle capacity over five years, amounting to about 4.5 gigawatts starting in 2027. Oracle, OpenAI, and SoftBank are also collaborating on the construction of Stargate data centers. Now, the partnership is being pushed more firmly toward software.

Oracle announced this today during Oracle AI World in Las Vegas. At the heart of this initiative is Oracle AI Workspace. Through plugins in ChatGPT, employees can retrieve information, complete approved workflows, and perform actions in Fusion Applications, NetSuite, Oracle AI Database, and OCI. Users describe a goal they have in mind, after which ChatGPT retrieves the appropriate Oracle tools and data. The two companies state that governance requirements are upheld in this process.

“With this new product suite, we’re bringing their AI capabilities together with Oracle applications, data, and cloud infrastructure,” says Oracle CEO Clay Magouyrk.

Security and no-code apps

The integration also advances security. Oracle AI Security Mesh is a managed service that uses OpenAI’s cyber models to detect and remediate vulnerabilities on OCI, other clouds, and on-premises. Customers determine what the agents are allowed to test. Oracle manages the guardrails to ensure AI usage stays on track. This is intended to prevent organizations from building their own AI-driven security layer through custom development.

Users without coding skills can also benefit from the new integrations. They can build applications using Oracle App Composer via Codex. Oracle handles deployment on OCI, utilizing OCI Kubernetes Engine and Autonomous AI Database. The integration ensures that identity, permissions, and audits remain in place. The tool also supports APEXlang, which keeps code to a minimum and thereby prevents technical debt.

Free start for SMBs

For small businesses, Oracle offers the AI SMB Bundle to get started with the integration. It’s free to try and comes with $12,000 in cloud credit. The package bundles ChatGPT Business, AI Workspace, Codex, App Composer, OCI, and NetSuite QuickStart for invoicing and cash flow.
