That’s according to research by Zebra Technologies. Decision makers are also convinced: 85 per cent believe AI will improve operations in retail. Of frontline retail assistants, 75 per cent say generative AI will improve efficiency and customer service.

According to Zebra, the current challenge is moving from technology innovation to real-life use cases that show how AI provides productivity, simpler workflows and a better customer experience. Retailers are doing good research on how AI can positively impact their sales and business growth. Generative AI can be appropriate for frontline employees and helping customers.

Accordingly, 73 per cent of decision makers said they want to implement AI for demand planning and inventory replenishment in the next five years. Nearly seven in 10 will turn to AI for assortment pricing decisions within the same time frame. Too much or too little inventory and a lack of inventory visibility and accuracy continue to cause problems. For retailers, this makes meeting customer demand and addressing theft more difficult.
