Google Drive users are complaining in Google support forums about the loss of recently saved files and folder formats, Bleeping Computer reports. Google is coming up with some temporary fixes.

According to affected Google Drive users, recently saved files and folder arrangement changes have suddenly disappeared. Their Drive environment was additionally reportedly reset to the situation from April-May this year. Paying customers have also been affected by this data loss on Google Drive.

Synchronization problem

The activity logs of these affected users would not show any recent changes. This makes it likely that they themselves did not make these changes, Bleeping Computer says.

Perhaps at some point in the system environment, synchronization between the data on the affected users’ devices and Google Cloud went awry.

Whether the vanished data disappeared completely is unknown. Users may still have this (recent) data somewhere in a cached environment, so they can still salvage it.

Google provides temporary solutions

On its support forums, Google has since confirmed that there is a problem with Google Drive. Appealed not to click on “Disconnect account” in the Google Drive version for desktops. In addition, users are urged not to delete or move the app data folder.

  • For Windows: %USERPROFILE%DriveFS.
  • For macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Google/DriveFS

Furthermore, users are advised to make a copy of the app data folder. Of course, users can always store files locally or use another cloud storage provider.
