Veeam has now expanded its backup capabilities for Microsoft 365 environments with a BaaS product. This should provide end users of Microsoft’s software suite with more functionality for data protection and recovery from ransomware attacks.

Specifically, the new Veeam BaaS solution for Microsoft 365 integrates, among other things, with the tech giant’s own Microsoft 365 Backup Storage. The latter service allows users to manage and secure their most critical Microsoft 365 data. These include the data they have in Microsoft Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business and Microsoft Teams.

Veeam adds its Cirrus by Veeam technology within the introduced solution, giving users of Microsoft 365 environments all the benefits and convenient functionality of a BaaS solution. In doing so, the new service builds on the already existing Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 product.

Trio of Veeam backup options for Microsoft 365

The arrival of the new BaaS solution also further expands Veeam’s entire range of dedicated backup options for Microsoft 365. Now Veeam customers can choose from three options for their Microsoft 365 backup:

First, there’s the new Cirrus by Veeam BaaS solution, which does not require them to implement any infrastructure or storage environment for Microsoft 365 Backup Storage.

Secondly, they can choose the pre-existing Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 product. This product customers can deploy themselves and manage the infrastructure required in the process.

Finally, customers have the option to purchase a backup service for their Microsoft 365 data from a Veeam Cloud & Service Provider (VCSP) partner. Built on the Veeam platform, this version also features value-added services specific to the industry in which the user operates.

Availability

Veeam is currently establishing integration between Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 and Microsoft 365 Backup via an API. General availability of the Veeam BaaS solution comes within 90 days of when Microsoft 365 Backup Storage becomes generally available.
