Windows 11 adoption: almost 10 percent growth while Apple loses

The latest adoption figures for the Windows 11 operating system show the market is growing year over year. Last year marked an almost ten percent increase. In addition, it is noted that Apple is losing users to Windows.

The widely known story of Windows 11 has not changed. The OS holds only a pittance of the total market compared to the number of users of Windows 10. For Windows 12, based on the OS’ past history, we predict that it could relegate Windows 10 to the background.

Europe above average

Statcounter’s concrete figures show that Windows 11 has a market share of 26.52 percent. That of the previous OS is some 40 percent higher (67.46%). The low surplus is split between outdated systems Windows 7, 8.1 and XP.

In Europe, the figures for Windows 11 are just slightly more favourable. 27.29 percent of Europeans are running the latest operating system. However, the most popular Windows 11 appears to be in the continent of Oceania, where the average adoption rate is as high as 36.81 percent.

Windows consolidates market share

All previous figures compare the position of different Windows versions to each other. Although Windows is the undisputed market leader in the number of users of the OS, it is also interesting to compare the position of the various operating systems with one another.

Windows comes out very favourably this year with a 73 percent market share. In the last month, it appears that mostly Windows devices were given as gifts, as the market share increased by about four percent in the last month of the year. Almost all these gained users seem to have closed an Apple device once and for all, as that share fell by about four percent at the same time.

Possibly, the small loss of macOS shows that Apple’s own chip could not deliver what users expected from it. Although Apple says it wants the third generation to improve performance to make the chips attractive, users may have already dropped out on the story. Logical if they were disappointed in terms of performance after they just made a financial drain to buy a new Mac.
