Microsoft recently started rolling out the updated design of its cloud storage service, OneDrive. In addition to an updated look, this latest version also brings functional improvements, according to the tech giant.

Announced late last year, the updated design of OneDrive is intended to allow end users of the cloud storage service to access their files faster. This is made possible by new options for better organization of their content. This should prevent this storage from becoming cluttered and distracting from the tasks end users want to perform with the stored files, Microsoft indicates.

Features

The new look and feel of OneDrive is now being rolled out and closely resembles the look of Windows 11. The interface is now simplified and modernized and also offers the ability to search based on photos of acquaintances with whom files are shared.

In addition to the look and feel, the consumer version of OneDrive has also gained new functionality. These include filtering storage based on file extensions. In this case, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files.

There is also an “Add new” button, which makes it possible to choose new uploads and create new files via Office/Microsoft 365 apps. In the previous version, this was still divided into two separate buttons.

By the end of February, all end users should have migrated to the new version. According to Microsoft, more new features will be added to OneDrive over the course of this year.

Plans for the business version of OneDrive

The tech giant also plans to further address the business version of OneDrive. Consider, for example, the integration of Copilot into the cloud storage service. Late last year, it already announced the replacement of the Teams Files app with OneDrive for Teams.
