The upgraded version of Bard is now available in Europe. This version of Google’s AI chat robot is based on the latest Gemini Pro model.

In a post, the tech giant announced that Bard, based on Gemini Pro, is now available in 230 countries and territories. In addition, the AI chatbot now supports more than 40 languages, including Dutch and French.

More pressure on OpenAI

By making Bard with Gemini Pro available worldwide, Google wants to increase the pressure on OpenAI and its ChatGPT based on GPT-3.5/4/4.5. By adding the powerful Gemini Pro to the free version of Bard, the chatbot gets a major upgrade. The tech giant even says that the introduction of the LLM Gemini Pro in Bard provided “a huge step forward”.

The more capable version of this LLM, Gemini Ultra, will later become available in a paid version of Bard. In addition, another name change for the chatbot is imminent. Google wants to ditch the name Bard entirely and switch to Gemini.

Double-check

Google is also announcing enhanced functionality for the new supported languages that check Bard’s answers for correctness. The so-called ‘double-check’ functionality available for a longer period in English is getting an extension for that purpose.

By clicking on the “G icon,” Bard evaluates whether there is content available on the Internet that substantiates its answers. Users then receive a search result highlighting the confirming or contradicting information. This allows the user to perform the second check himself.

Generating AI images

Furthermore, users in all countries are now also able to generate images. This capability is only available in English. Bard generates the images based on the improved LLM, Imagen-2. This model is trained to generate photorealistic images balanced for speed and quality, indicates the tech giant.
