The new business unit focuses on artificial intelligence in business environments.

To support efforts at the Business AI division, SAP is also creating the new top position of Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer. The CAIO, Dr. Philipp Herzig, will lead the business unit. Herzig has held various positions in the software field in recent years and is now a well-known face within the SAP community.

“SAP’s increased focus on business AI marks the start of a completely new generation of enterprise innovation,” Herzig commented. “I look forward to working with our team, as well as our ecosystem of customers and partners, to drive the development and delivery of relevant, reliable, responsible business AI that fundamentally changes the way business runs.”

Strategic growth area

The Business AI unit will focus on product development, research and implementation. It will work closely with the various business units and regional teams within SAP to further integrate AI into all parts of the product portfolio. SAP hopes that creating Business AI will ensure that companies take advantage of AI solutions more quickly.

SAP has identified artificial intelligence as one of its key strategic growth areas. CEO Christian Klein indicated in January that the ERP vendor will invest more than a billion in AI over the next two years. AI efforts recently led to integrating the generative AI copilot Joule into SAP software, which can help write code, among other things.
