In a post on his own social media platform X, Elon Musk let it be known that an email service is being worked on.
Musk was asked by one of his Engineering employees when people would start making “XMail.” “It’s coming,” he responded. In addition to this, Musk repeatedly denounced recent developments surrounding Google today. For example, he attacked the tech company for its error-strewn generated images with the company’s new Gemini model. In doing so, Musk stressed that the development of Grok, a chatbot from xAI, is important as a counterbalance that won’t make such mistakes.

‘Everything app’
Twitter’s name change to X was already a sign of the broader interpretation Musk wanted to give to the platform. His ambition is to make X an “everything app,” including chatbots, search functions and other components. The fact that it might include an email service is new, though.
In doing so, Musk profiles his platform as a counterpart to the platforms of Google and Meta, among others. He argues that X’s operations will handle feedback better than the competition and remain impartial. However, such promises aren’t without controversy, and there are many critics. Musk is also faced with regulatory trouble. For example, the first official investigation from the EU based on the Digital Services Act focuses on the alleged spread of disinformation that X allows. A lack of control is said to lead to the hosting of illegal and hateful content, according to European Commissioner Thierry Breton.
