Anthropic has launched the Android app for Claude, having already debuted on iOS. This makes the chatbot as widely available as ChatGPT, which in many cases gets outperformed by this AI assistant.
Users can send 30 messages per day without paying. A Pro subscription costs 22 euros per month and gives customers access to Claude 3 Opus and Haiku, larger and cheaper models, respectively. Calls can be continued from a Web browser on the mobile app and vice versa.
Clear alternative
The Anthropic setup is very similar to that of OpenAI with ChatGPT, which we may consider the trendsetter here. The monthly subscription price of around 20 euros is also used by, for example, AI search engine Perplexity, which uses Anthropic models, among others.
The free offering will get you more than enough prompts to get familiar with the chatbot. Given the impressive performance of Claude 3.5 Sonnet, it is a very suitable alternative to ChatGPT, and not only when OpenAI runs out of free prompts to give you. Anthropic’s first 3.5 model already beat GPT-4o and Google Gemini 1.5 Pro in benchmarks. The sophisticated nature of the LLM also stands out in the real world. Where ChatGPT with the free GPT-3.5 tends to waste words, the latest Claude offers answers that are short but sweet.
An example of this is evident in how it edits texts. After rewriting a paragraph, Claude presents what changes it made and why. The free ChatGPT usually requires an additional query to point out the adjustments, or by adding a request for text and explanation to the initial prompt.
Multimodality is also present, but more limited than with alternative solutions. As with ChatGPT or Gemini, users can upload images, but an AI editing of them remains absent.
