Microsoft is introducing Dynamics 365 Activate, an AI tool designed to accelerate migrations to Dynamics 365. The public preview will initially focus on organizations migrating from Salesforce. ERP scenarios will follow later this year. In early customer implementations, the tool has already processed more than six billion data records.
Microsoft is deploying its AI agents to address a long-standing pain point: migrating business applications. With Dynamics 365 Activate, the company aims to help partners and customers switch faster, with less manual work and lower migration risk. According to Microsoft, the tool is built on hundreds of recent, successful Dynamics 365 migrations.
The first step is notably targeted. Microsoft isn’t starting with a neutral scenario, but specifically with organizations that want to move from Salesforce to Dynamics 365. It will address other CRM and ERP sources later.
What the tool does exactly
Activate analyzes an existing Salesforce environment and maps out data, business processes, customizations, and dependencies. It then generates configurations and executes the migration partially automatically, with built-in safeguards. Everything runs in a Microsoft-hosted environment.
Microsoft says Activate helps teams quickly determine what to retain, what to simplify, and what needs to be redesigned. This allows implementation partners to spend less time on discovery and analysis.
Comcast used the discovery features to map out its Salesforce landscape prior to migration planning. Microsoft also notes that Activate profiled more than six billion records in early projects.
Three scenarios
Microsoft ultimately envisions three paths for Activate: starting from scratch, migrating from a known source, and expanding for existing Dynamics 365 customers who are adding a new application, region, or business unit.
The roadmap includes agentic mapping, test sampling, natural-language migration guidance, and executive summaries. The ERP capabilities will be released later this year. Organizations can now sign up for the public preview of the Salesforce migration.
