New features make it even easier for companies to develop their own apps.

Microsoft has announced an array of new features and capabilities to improve their Power Platform low code development suite. The announcement was made at the company’s Ignite 2020 virtual event.

Low-code software development is gaining popularity across the enterprise space. It allows internal corporate IT professional to easily develop and deploy specialized proprietary apps with very little coding.

Microsoft Power Platform is a low code product suite that enables users and organizations to analyze, act, and automate on the data to digitally transform their businesses. Microsoft Power Platform today comprises four products: Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power Virtual Agents. It also has two add-ons: AI Builder and Power Apps portals.

In a blog post, James Phillips, Microsoft’s president of business applications, said Microsoft has “made significant improvements and investments over the past 18 months in making Power Platform, Microsoft Azure, and Microsoft Visual Studio work seamlessly together.”

Integration with Microsoft Teams & GitHub

One interesting announcement was the integration of Power Platform with Microsoft Teams.

James Phillips announced that the new Power BI app “will enable users to quickly discover, search, and discuss data without ever leaving Teams. This central, personalized home for data in Teams will ensure that insights are always just a click away from where conversations are happening and where decisions are made.”

Phillips said Microsoft is integrating Power Platform with the popular application development collaboration platform GitHub (also owned by Microsoft).

Now, “pro developers can create their own SDLC (software development lifecycle) workflows using GitHub Actions for Power Platform on the marketplace, as well as use pre-configured SDLC workflow templates,” writes Phillips.

Dynamics 365 updates

Microsoft also announced a host of updates to its Dynamics 365 ERP platform. Dynamics 365 is a suite of ready-made applications that help businesses to automate. Applications include everything from sales and marketing, supply chain management to operations, human resources and project automation.

At Ignite, Microsoft announced the addition of a new first-party voice channel for Dynamics 365 Customer Service.

James Phillips explained the advantages of the new product. “By integrating voice into existing omnichannel capabilities, we are providing a seamless, end-to-end customer service experience within a single solution built on the Microsoft cloud that empowers teams to deliver consistent, connected support across all channels.”

Another new product is Dynamics 365 Project Operations, which will help connect and provide more visibility to project management, sales and accounting teams.

Both new tools will be generally available in October, according to Microsoft.
