ServiceNow adds support for Oracle OCI

If organizations want to have insight into the use and deployment of resources and services, ServiceNow is one of the go-to suppliers to consider. That vendor’s ITOM offering gives you the possibility to monitor and manage this centrally. It’s not just about on-premises resources and services; the cloud is also part of this nowadays. However, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) was not supported. Until today, that is, because the companies now announce the integration of OCI into ServiceNow’s Service portal.

With the integration, ServiceNow and Oracle OCI customers now have the ability to search, find and manage OCI IaaS resources within hybrid or multi-cloud environments. That is, using the same ServiceNow Service Management Portal that you already use for other cloud environments. ServiceNow already offers integrations for AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and for container environments such as Kubernetes and OpenShift. The integration is available in the ServiceNow Store.

Included in ServiceNow CMDB

The added value of coupling OCI with ServiceNow’s ITOM Visibiliy application is obvious. You can now centrally gain insights, analyze cloud usage within your organization and make adjustments where necessary. ServiceNow extracts all of the OCI resources it can find and stores them in the ServiceNow Configuration Management Database (CMDB). This repository can then be used to monitor resource availability. This allows you to see at a glance how many resources are still available for a specific department within your organization.

An additional capability within ServiceNow’s platform is to combine the content of the CMDB with the ServiceNow AIOps platform. This allows you to go one step further. You can create dashboards with this. These can be about the health of an organization’s cloud environments. You can also generate reports with it. Finally, it allows you to get insights into your cloud spend. The latter is obviously very important and a big headache for many organizations.

The integration with ServiceNow is the latest in a relentless stream of announcements from Oracle around OCI. For example, a few weeks ago there was the announcement around Oracle Cloud Lift. Earlier this year we also had the simplification of the Autonomous Data Warehouse and the introduction of Roving Edge Infrastructure. So no doubt we won’t have to wait long for the next OCI announcement.
