Microsoft Teams Rooms gets updated across the board

Microsoft is introducing various Microsoft Teams Rooms updates in January 2022. Usability stands to benefit.

The improvements primarily touch on Meet Now, which entails a quick way to host and join conferences. Meet Now will be brought in line with the Meet functionality currently available in the MS Teams desktop version.

With Meet, users will be able to start meetings and invite participants with a single click. Users can add these participants from a ‘grid’ search function. The button for Meet is now directly accessible from the home screen.

New call functionality

Furthermore, MS Teams Rooms’ call functionality will be improved. For this purpose, the ‘Dial pad’ on the Teams Rooms console is replaced by Call, an app. The app acts as the starting point for Team calls between two people and joint calls between multiple callers. A VoIP license remains required for all latter functionality, as was the case before.

SIP URI Calling is not available yet, but users can switch their device to ‘Skype for Business and Microsoft Teams-mode’ to add a SIP URI entry point in the calling application. In addition, users can use the ‘Enter a URI’ button.

The new version of Microsoft Teams Rooms is expected to roll out in mid-January 2022.
