Update for Microsoft Surface Duo smartphones leads to issues

A recent firmware update for the Surface Duo and Duo 2 smartphones has not worked very well. The phones are rebooting randomly or not booting up quite correctly. The tech giant is investigating the problem.

The recent May 2023 firmware update for the tech giant’s Surface Duo and Duo 2 smartphones has given users many problems, according to comments on Reddit and Twitter. According to end users, after the update, the smartphones randomly start a reboot process or do not boot up quite correctly.

After the unsolicited boot, the device then prompts for a factory reset. A temporary fix for the problem is to reboot the device regularly until the boot process is completed properly.

Microsoft has since acknowledged problems with the firmware update for the Surface Duo smartphones, but says it is still investigating.

Unrest surrounding Surface Duo smartphones

According to insiders, the Microsoft Surface Duo smartphones have been troubled for some time. The tech giant has announced new plans for them, including scrapping a new Surface Duo smartphone with two screens.

This was supposed to see the light of day this year, but work is now underway on a foldable Surface Duo smartphone with a single screen. The foldable Surface Duo should come out next year.

In addition, many collaborators on the Surface Duo smartphone were moved to another Android-based project. Microsoft is not going to put Android 13 on the smartphone, instead focusing on Android 14.
