Surface Duo launches in Europe in early 2021

Microsoft has announced that it will launch the Surface Duo in the UK, France, Germany and Canada in early 2021. The two-screen smartphone was released in the US in September 2020.

In a blog post, Microsoft writes that people have been asking the company for months when the Surface Duo would be available outside the US. Microsoft now announces that it will be available in four additional countries in early 2021. The company promises to share more information about the device before then.

It is striking that Microsoft is only releasing the Surface Duo in other countries more than half a year after the original availability. Reviews have criticised the device for, among other things, a bad camera and the lack of 5G. The SoC, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, has been succeeded by the Snapdragon 865.

Microsoft has announced the Surface Duo in late 2019. It is a smartphone with two screens that can be folded on top of each other. The device runs a highly customised version of Android and comes with several pre-installed Microsoft apps.

It is not known how much the Surface Duo will cost in Europe. In the US, it launched with a 1399 dollar price for the 128GB version and 1499 dollar for the 256GB version. This amounts to 1141 and 1223 euros respectively.
