Apple’s October 13 special event is expected to reveal iPhone 12

The “Hi, Speed” event should show what was missing from Apple’s September event – the new iPhone.

Every year Apple holds an event in September in which they present the latest iPhone. This year, however, it was different. The September event, called “Time Flies” featured many new products, including a new iPad and a new Apple Watch 6. Missing, however, was the new iPhone.

Financial analysts use the number of weeks that Apple has iPhones on sale to help model their predictions for the company’s financial results during the holiday shopping season in Western markets, typically Apple’s largest sales quarter.

Apple has now announced an October 13 event with the tagline “Hi, Speed.”

Analysts expect that the new version of the iPhone will have 5G connectivity. Analysts have also highlighted possible new AirPods over-ear wireless headphones and tags for finding lost items using wireless signals, according to Reuters.

iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro

According to various sources and reports, Apple will present four (4) new iPhones at the event next week. Two of these will be the successors to the iPhone 11, and one model each to succeed the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max.

As Sam Saxon wrote in Ars Tecnica last month, “All signs point to a major redesign across the board—the first since the iPhone X was introduced in 2017—that would include, among other things, flattened metallic edges similar to those on the recent iPad Pro models, or the iPhone 4 and 5.”

More choice in sizes across the board

The phones will come in three different sizes. The largest of the iPhone 11 successors and the smallest of the iPhone 11 Pro successors would have 6.1-inch screens. The smallest iPhone 11 successor is expected to have a 5.4-inch screen. This makes it the smallest iPhone since the iPhone 5S and original iPhone SE. Finally, an iPhone 11 Pro Max successor would have a robust 6.7-inch screen.

The reports quoted by Saxon claim that the two cheaper models will have aluminum edges, while the two pricier ones will feature stainless steel.

Apple shares have soared this year even as the coronavirus has crippled economies around the world, thanks in large part to booming sales of work-from-home items.

The “Hi, Speed” Apple event will begin at It will begin at 10:00 Pacific Time on October 13th.
