MacBook Air is the thinnest and lightest device in the iPhone maker’s lineup. It has grown in popularity among students across the world, who feel the price tag is approachable. In 2021, Apple updated the MacBook Air with the Apple M1 chip to enhance battery life and general performance.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported on Sunday that Apple is gearing up to unveil the biggest MacBook Air redesign this year. On top of the new M2 processor, Apple MacBook Air may have a new industrial design with a better display and more.

The predictions

Mark Gurman made some predictions regarding the release of new Apple products in 2022. They include:

  • A new Mac mini.
  • A large-screen iMac Pro.
  • A new entry-level MacBook Pro.
  • A new wirelessly-charged iPad Pro.
  • A small Mac Pro with up to 40 CPU cores and 128 GPU cores.
  • A Virtual Reality headset (with some Augmented Reality features), codenamed N301, accompanied by its rOS (codenamed Oak).
  • A rugged version of the Apple Watch for extreme sports users.
  • An iPhone 14 with a punch-hole notch for the front camera.
  • An iPhone SE 5G in the first half of 2022.

Coming soon

None of this is new, since the rumors have been swirling for some time now, but more industry insiders corroborate Gurman’s projections. Another reliable Apple leaker who goes by the handle @dylandkt said that he confirmed with sources that Apple would be working to remove the Sim Card tray soon, and allow new phone models to only use eSIMs.

While other phone companies have made devices with punch hole front cameras or hidden them entirely from view, Apple continues to stick with a notch, which may be disconcerting, in an age where a device’s design elegance factors into the purchase process.
