Microsoft recently made GitHub Copilot Enterprise generally available. With it, developers can now better query their own codebase and processes.

According to Microsoft, the introduction of the improved version of GitHub Copilot Enterprise is primarily intended to help developers more with proprietary code and processes. Customers are said to have frequently asked the tech giant recently to add this functionality to the intelligent programming assistant.

More specifically, GitHub Copilot Enterprise enables developers to ask more questions about public and private code and learn new code bases. In addition, the tool helps achieve more consistency in execution.

Three main basic tasks

GitHub says that with the latest version especially now, users can better perform three basic tasks. First, the tool can gain a better understanding of the proprietary codebase. This is made possible by streamlining the pipeline for code navigation and understanding, allowing for faster implementation of new features, faster troubleshooting and code modernization.

In addition, the tool helps developers discover more knowledge and best practices (within their own organization). To this end, GitHub Copilot Enterprise integrates chat functionality so that developers can ask questions and receive answers about their codebase and receive the documentation intended for this purpose or existing solutions.

Furthermore, the tool helps review pull requests faster. With the pull request summaries generated by the intelligent tool, developers need less time for drafting and therefore more time for merging.

Beta feature and cost

Within GitHub Copilot Enterprise, beta functionality has also been added as the integration of the Bing search feature. This allows developers to search for the right code solutions in even more ways is the thinking behind this.

GitHub Copilot Enterprise is now available through GitHub and costs customers $39 per month per user.
