AWS RDS database service supports Graviton2 instances

AWS RDS database service supports Graviton2 instances

AWS released a preview of its AWS Relational Database Service (RDS) that supports its own ARM-based Graviton2 database instances.

The support should make various cloud-based database services cheaper to use than the standard x86-based database servers.

The AWS RDS service helps companies with database functionality on the underlying servers. This includes management and automation options such as hardware provisioning, database setup, patching and backup. According to AWS, this allows administrators to concentrate more on the use of their applications instead of the infrastructure.

Supported database environments

On the Graviton2-based instances – the Graviton2 M6g and R6g instances – AWS RDS now explicitly supports the cloud-based database services MySQL and PostgreSQL. Support for AWS Aurora’s own cloud database and MariaDB is expected soon.

The previews of the M6g and R6g database instances supported by AWS RDS are now available in the AWS regions AWS US East (N. Virginia and Ohio), US West (Oregon), Europe (Frankfurt and Ireland) and Asia Pacific (Tokyo).
