AWS is expanding its Generative AI Competency program with a Dutch partner. The honour belongs to start-up Weaviate and its cloud database for AI development.
Weaviate releases a vector database that runs entirely on open-source software. According to AWS, the Amsterdam-based start-up’s tool has “in a short time become a standard tool for software developers and data companies worldwide.”
That shows the tremendous growth Weaviate has experienced over the past year. For example, it launched in April 2023 with $50 million in seed capital. Soon, the opportunity presented itself to expand the team. That team currently consists of 30 employees, working not only in the Netherlands but also in America. Moreover, they already plan to expand the team again and hope to double the team or even hire up to 100 employees.
Vector data
Vector data is useful for companies that want to adapt the models behind AI tools to their own needs. Data is easy to search, store, and share within the database. Weaviate integrates its solution with Google Cloud, Azure, AWS, Confluent, and Snowflake.
At AWS, this is thus through the Generative AI Competency program. The program helps customers of the cloud provider improve their performance by deploying GenAI through AWS. “Since we launched Generative AI Competency, our partners have made a lot of impact and have already contributed significantly to the global launch of generative AI workloads this year,” said Danielle Gorlick, General Manager Benelux.
