VMware announced multiple updates to VMware Tanzu Mission Control, VMware Tanzu Kubernetes Grid and VMware Tanzu Application Platform.

The solutions are key to Tanzu, VMware’s Kubernetes portfolio. The organization presented the updates during VMware Explore 2022, its annual conference. Tanzu gains various features and integrations.

VMware Tanzu Mission Control

VMware Tanzu Mission Control helps manage Kubernetes clusters across multiple cloud environments. VMware is expanding the solution with support for clusters in Kubernetes environment Amazon EKS. Amazon EKS clusters will soon be fully manageable through Tanzu Mission Control.

In addition, Tanzu Mission Control was integrated with VMware Aria Automation, formerly known as VMware vRealize Automation Cloud. Aria Automation provides a central management platform for the infrastructure and apps of multi-cloud environments, including Kubernetes clusters. The new integration allows cluster policies from Tanzu Mission Control to be implemented in Aria Automation.

Furthermore, Tanzu Mission Control is now connectable to GitOps. Administrators can store cluster configurations in a Git repository and execute the configurations with Tanzu Mission Control. The integration helps large teams collaboratively manage clusters.

VMware Tanzu Kubernetes Grid

While Tanzu Mission Control focuses on cluster management in multiple clouds, Tanzu Kubernetes Grid is suitable for cluster management in data centers, public clouds and edge environments.

VMware announced a major update. Tanzu Kubernetes Grid 2.0 offers new options for cluster creation. The release also features additional app lifecycle management tools, as well as a framework for open-source APIs.

Furthermore, administrators can create tiny clusters with a single control and worker node, making the solution more compatible with edge environments.

VMware Tanzu Application Platform

In addition to cluster management solutions, VMware provides a platform for developing and deploying applications in clusters. Tanzu Application Platform 1.3 will be available shortly.

First of all, the new version is supported on OpenShift, Red Hat’s Kubernetes platform. In addition, organizations can now install the software in an air-gapped environment. Though end users and apps have limited access, the air-gapped environment provides more security than a typical installation.

VMware also integrated the solution with VMware Carbon Black, a scanner that finds vulnerabilities in applications. Snyk and Grype’s application security solutions have been supported for some time. Lastly, the release includes a new dashboard for monitoring application vulnerabilities.
