Dell AI Factory bundles infrastructure for AI applications

The new Dell AI Factory includes devices, servers, storage, data protection and networking to make AI workloads work everywhere.

The infrastructure provider announced this at Dell Technologies World. “Data centers must be designed from the ground up to handle AI’s speed and scale while new AI PCs are transforming productivity and collaboration” said COO Jeff Clarke. “What’s needed is new IT infrastructure and devices
purpose-built to meet the specific demands of AI.”

Therefore, the Dell AI Factory includes the infrastructure, solutions, and services that support AI on-premises, at the edge, and in cloud environments.

PowerScale, PowerSwitch and PowerEdge

These sites should benefit from updated or completely new products specifically designed to support AI applications. One example is the PowerScale F910, an all-flash file storage system that delivers up to 127 per cent better performance than the F900 according to Dell’s tests. As a result, AI-based insights can be created faster. In addition, Dell is introducing Project Lightning, a software architecture that integrates with PowerScale to accelerate training times for large-scale and complex AI workflows.

In addition to these storage upgrades, the Dell AI Factory aims to attract businesses with new networking innovations. The PowerSwitch Z9864F-ON uses the Broadcom Tomahawk 5 chipset and is said to double the network performance of AI applications compared to previous generations. To achieve this, the network architecture emphasizes high throughput, low latency and easy scalability.

Finally, the new PowerEdge XE9680 on the networking front supports Broadcom 400G PCIe Gen 5.0 Ethernet adapters. The combination of PowerEdge hardware, PowerSwitch Z9864F-ON, and 400G PCIe Gen 5.0 Ethernet adapters promises improved performance, scalability and efficiency by building robust Ethernet fabrics.
