ASM International NV (ASMI) has been selling much more over the last year as it benefits from a strong interest in AI. Sales have increased 56 percent in one year.
New orders totalled €755.4 million. The company sees an increasing demand for gate-all-around (GAA) 2nm technology nodes and high-bandwidth memory (HBM). This states the Dutch manufacturer of chip tools in its quarterly results.
Furthermore, revenue of 706 million euros was achieved in the second quarter. This is an increase of six percent compared to the second quarter in 2023. Moreover, it is slightly above the estimated revenue of 660 to 700 million euros. Net profit reached a total of 159 million euros.
AI chips
GAA technology is selling well due to increased interest in AI chips. Mass production of this node will start in 2025, which already ensures sales next year.
The transistors ASMI invests in do not have the scalability limitations of the FinFET architecture. In the improved architecture, multiple nanowires are placed horizontally on top of each other. The conduction channels are then surrounded by gates on all sides. The result is transistors that are more flexible and capable of higher performance.
Due to favorable performance and good prospects, ASMI dares to adjust its revenue expectations for the second half to fifteen percent growth. Ten percent growth was initially expected. In these expectations, the company must also take into account declining exports to China.
