IBM equipped its Sentinel backup system with snapshot technology for SAP HANA and Salesforce environments.

IBM Spectrum Sentinel for SAP HANA performs ransomware analysis on immutable primary storage snapshots, including automated recovery orchestration. IBM Spectrum Copy Data Management is used for this purpose. The technology only delivers copies of data when they’re needed. It can automatically create application-aware backups of SAP HANA and scans them for malware based on machine learning.

Furthermore, the IBM Sentinel solution is capable of isolating infected backups, ultimately providing companies with verified and recent backup copies for recovery operations. IBM calls the validated copies ‘Safeguarded Copies’.

Salesforce environments

IBM applies the same principles to Salesforce environments with its IBM Spectrum Protect Plus Online Services for Salesforce solution. This solution supports both daily automatic backups and on-demand backups.

Salesforce charges additional costs for cloud-based backups, but when using IBM’s solution, customers can store backups offsite to avoid extra fees.

IBM further announced that its IBM FlashSystem storage arrays now offer policy-based replication functionality and encryption for FlashSystem replication.
