Rubrik is now offering its own SaaS-based data protection for Salesforce. Meanwhile, Own also promises to safeguard this data, touting the benefits of continuous data protection.
Rubrik already protects data from SaaS services such as Microsoft 365 and Jira Cloud. After stated plans to support more services, support for Salesforce Core has now arrived. For customers, it means they may require one less backup vendor if they want to protect their data on both Microsoft 365 as well as Salesforce. All of this can be managed within a single Rubrik panel, covering everything from on-prem to SaaS and the public cloud.
In addition to protecting data, Rubrik integrates with security products through its own Security Cloud, such as CrowdStrike Falcon XDR. This further increases the level of data protection by combining the qualities of both solutions.

Continuous data protection
One of Rubrik’s competitors is Own Company, and it’s taking a slightly different approach to Salesforce protection. Continuous Data Protection (CDP) maintains backups as quickly as possible, essentially as soon as changes occur within the Salesforce platform. It’s a key differentiator, according to Own: no other Salesforce data protector is said to support such speed.
The technique leans on Salesforce’s Change Data Capture (CDC) events, which track what changes are made to production data. So although Own is the only one to adopt CDP, CDC allows other vendors to add similar functionality over time. This does require a fundamental change in the traditional policies of SaaS backup vendors, Own argues. This while end users demand that their data always be protected in the most up-to-date state; after all, a ransomware attack or system failure can happen at any time and cannot be predicted.
In short: Own and Rubrik have different views on data protection for Salesforce. Rubrik’s strength is that it avoids silos and simplifies management, while Own emphasizes real-time protection. Both solutions are available now.
