Check Point Software Technologies has acquired Avanan. The financial aspects of the deal have not yet been disclosed.
Check Point Software Technologies, based in Israel, is a multinational combined hardware and software product provider for IT security, including endpoint security, mobile security, network security, cloud security, security management, and data security.
Avanan is also a US-based Israeli cyber security company founded back in 2015. The primary technology they offer allows malicious emails to be blocked before reaching users’ inboxes. They have over 5000 customers and protect approximately 2 ½ million email accounts.

Why the acquisition took place
Avanan provides some of the highest levels of SaaS collaboration tools and email security. In addition, it can easily integrate within the Check Point Infinity combined architecture- delivering the world’s best email security service.
Using patented technology built and designed for cloud email environments, in particular, will allow this solution to be one of the only all-inclusive solutions in the market. It can be used to protect those working remotely from receiving and accessing phishing malicious URLs and files and phishing attacks through endpoints, networks, web, collaboration suites, and email.
Since email technologies have significantly evolved and have transitioned to the cloud, cyberattacks are getting more frequent. Additionally, with the pandemic necessitating sophisticated remote working environment tools, the need for security has heightened considerably.
Dorit Dor, the CPO for Check Point, stated: “More and more businesses are moving to cloud-email platforms, and with email becoming a major channel to launch devastating cyber-attacks, this acquisition represents a huge potential.”
