Spanish police on Saturday arrested three individuals suspected of hacking. They allegedly carried out activities against Spain and other NATO member states.
Those arrested are suspected of participating in DDoS attacks. These attacks were said to target public institutions and strategic sectors. The websites under attack were always linked to a country expressing support for Ukraine.
Pro-Russian
Links to the hacker collective NoName057(16) are suspected. This collective carries out attacks based on a pro-Russian mindset. “In their own founding manifesto, this group acknowledges that they will ‘respond proportionately to the hostile and openly anti-Russian actions of Western Russophobes,'” reports the Guardia Civil from Spain.
In the Netherlands, the group struck websites of several Dutch ports about a year ago. The attacks were addressed and remedied several hours (port of Rotterdam, Amsterdam and Den Helder) to days later. Earlier this year, the hackers hit several Belgian websites linked to political activities.
For the attacks, the hackers used self-developed software known as DDoSia, which was previously described as simple but effective.
