The company says unauthorized activity occurred in one of its systems and is investigating. Details about the attack method or the number of affected customers are not yet available.
“Alation recently identified an isolated incident involving unauthorized activity in one of its systems,” the company said in a statement. The company indicated that a thorough investigation is underway and that additional information will follow when appropriate.
Few details, many unanswered questions
Exactly what happened remains unclear. Alation does not specify the nature of the attack, offer details about the cause, or provide a number of affected customers. It is also unknown whether customers have been notified or what measures they should take. It has also not been confirmed whether any data was compromised. The incident is believed to have occurred around August 18.
On Tuesday, the company reported an unspecified incident that led to reduced availability for some customers. According to Alation, that issue was resolved within an hour.
Alation develops software that enables companies to make their data searchable using natural language. The company says it serves more than 500 organizations worldwide, including about half of the Fortune 1000.
