Cohere has entered into an agreement to acquire AISLE. The startup builds autonomous AI systems that detect and help patch unknown vulnerabilities in critical software. With this deal, Cohere aims to make security a core component of its sovereign AI platform.
Cohere announced the proposed acquisition today. The Canadian AI developer is presenting the deal as the next step toward what it calls the world’s leading sovereign AI platform: a combination of frontier models, agentic applications, secure deployment infrastructure, and security features.
AISLE has only been active since 2025. Nevertheless, it has already achieved significant results. In its first year, the system identified more than 500 previously unknown vulnerabilities and assigned CVEs across more than 100 codebases. All twelve vulnerabilities in the January release of OpenSSL were discovered by AISLE. For curl, this included 18 of the 24 CVEs in the most recent release. The maintainers of the respective projects independently review the findings.
From models to security
Why would a model builder acquire a security company? According to Cohere, companies and governments are increasingly deploying AI in production. As a result, they face requirements for data protection, governance, compliance, and software vulnerabilities. The company says powerful models alone aren’t enough. It is committed to a full-stack approach that includes AI, cybersecurity, governance, and secure deployment, even in private cloud, on-premises, and fully air-gapped environments.
Cohere also sees a synergy. By bringing AISLE’s autonomous security research closer to the training of its own frontier models, it aims to build better security systems. At the same time, it is investigating how challenging, verifiable security problems can help evaluate and improve future models.
For customers, Cohere promises, among other things, better threat detection, stronger governance and monitoring of AI agents and autonomous workflows, and better protection of sensitive data and business-critical systems.
Cohere has not yet announced when it will finalize the acquisition of AISLE.
