Fortinet and Symantec offer cloud-based security together

Fortinet, which offers solutions for cyber security, enters into a partnership with Symantec. This provides security solutions. Joint customers get access to the solutions of the two companies. That’s why Fortinet’s firewall capabilities are integrated with Symantec’s cloud-based Web Security Service.

It is also the intention to integrate Symantec’s endpoint security solutions with the Fortinet Security Fabric. This technological collaboration will provide joint customers with access to security mechanisms for endpoints, networking and cloud environments. These are crucial for the application of the Zero Trust security framework.

Integrated solution

WSS leads the Secure Web Gateways market. Offered from the cloud, this network security service protects against advanced threats, provides access control, and keeps business-critical information secure. In this way, WSS contributes to the safe use of the Internet and cloud applications that is in line with the requirements of legislation and regulations.

The integration of Fortinet’s industry-leading next-generation firewall FortiGate with Symantec’s WSS will create cloud-based threat prevention capabilities. Art Gilliland, executive vice president and director of Symantec’s Enterprise Products division, states that the two companies intend to work together to offer the best security technology.

This collaboration allows our joint customers to leverage the combined power of Symantec’s Integrated Cyber Defense Platform and Fortinet’s next-generation firewall in the form of an integrated and intuitive solution that is easy to deploy, says Gilliland.

Solution for endpoints

The plan is also to integrate Symantec’s endpoint security solution with the Fortinet Security Fabric. The latter security platform provides organizations with real-time and actionable threat intelligence and provides automated countermeasures against malware and cyber attacks that exploit vulnerabilities. Interoperability between Fortinet’s SDWAN technology and Symantec’s Web Security Service will also be certified on the basis of Symantec’s Technology Integration Partner Program (TIPP). Fortinet and Symantec also intend to develop joint go-to-market activities as part of the partnership.

The WSS-integrated cloud-based firewall service is expected to be available in the first half of 2019. The components of the Fortinet Security Fabric have now been integrated with Symantec Endpoint Protection. Fortinet and Symantec are currently exploring possibilities for additional integrations.
