Datto acquires Infocyte. Infocyte specializes in endpoint detection and response (EDR). The acquisition strengthens Datto RMM Ransomware Detection and SaaS Defense, two components of Datto’s software platform for MSPs.

Infocyte was founded by ex-military cybersecurity specialists. The organization holds multiple patents on endpoint detection and response technology. Infocyte incorporates the technology into a SaaS and on-premises security solution. The software is used by AT&T, KPMG and Check Point, among others.

With the acquisition, Datto gains Infocyte’s technology. In the coming year, Infocyte will be integrated into Datto RMM (Remote Monitoring and Management). The platform consists of tools for monitoring, securing and managing endpoints. MSPs use the platform to provide services to organizations.

Datto develops RMM to meet all the pillars of the NIST security framework: Identify, Detect, Protect, Respond and Recover. ‘Recover’ has been covered for many years. Datto was founded on the back of backup technology. The acquisition of Infocyte strengthens the ‘Protect’, ‘Detect’ and ‘Respond’ pillars of the framework. Infocyte’s technology is expected to primarily appear in Datto Ransomware Detection and Datto SaaS Defense, two existing components of RMM.

Infocyte continues within Datto

Infocyte’s team will continue as a part of Datto’s organization. “We look forward to joining”, says Curtis Hutcheson, CEO of Infocyte. “Securing endpoints continues to be a top challenge for SMBs. With Datto’s partner community and growing security portfolio, we will be able to dramatically expand our reach to millions of endpoints.”
