Microsoft released a standalone version of Microsoft Defender for Business. Smaller companies no longer need to purchase a Microsoft 365 Business Premium bundle.

According to Microsoft, the new version offers enterprise-grade security to SMEs. Microsoft Defender for Business features straightforward deployment and management options, the latest antivirus protection, and endpoint detection and response for advanced attacks. The latter uses behaviour-based monitoring.

In addition, the solution allows SMBs to run automated surveys and remediation to quickly respond to threats. The solution comes with proactive threat and vulnerability management for discovering and solving misconfigurations in software.

Other features include integrations with Microsoft 365 Lighthouse and Microsoft Defender for Business for IT service providers. Support for server environments is expected later this year.
