IBM is going to add a new component to its data platform watsonx. With watsonx.governance, organizations should get the tools to boost trust in generative AI.

While presenting the new watsonx component, IBM says that while generative AI enables many use cases within companies, it also comes with new risks and complexities. For example, LLMs use data scraped from the Internet, which is difficult to validate for fairness and accuracy. Also, the output of LLMs can be difficult to explain.

Governance

With watsonx.governance, organizations should get a toolkit that addresses risks. First, by proactively detecting and mitigating risks. To do this, the IBM tool measures the fairness and bias of LLMs. IBM also wants to help with a “nutrition label” for AI, requiring organizations to comply with future AI and data regulations.

The watsonx.governance solution enables management, monitoring and governance around models. These can include models from IBM itself, as well as models from the open source community and other vendors.

“Watsonx.governance is a one-stop-shop for businesses that are struggling to deploy and manage both LLM and ML models, giving businesses the tools they need to automate AI governance processes, monitor their models, and take corrective action, all with increased visibility. Its ability to translate regulations into enforceable policies will only become moreessential for enterprises as new AI regulation takes hold worldwide,” said Kareem Yusuf, Senior Vice President, Product Management and Growth at IBM.

Watsonx.governance is part of the AI and data platform IBM watsonx. This also includes two other components: watsonx.ai and watsonx.data. The former helps developers tune AI, while the latter solution adds a lakehouse.
