Anthropic is starting an investment round to raise new capital. The AI developer wants to raise more than 685 million euros ($750 million).
The reason for the investment round is that Anthropic wants to secure even more capital to compete with OpenAI in particular. The round is led by venture capitalist Menlo Ventures.
Business value continues to rise
If the developer of the LLM Claude raises the required $750 million, the value of the entire company will reach a maximum of $18 billion, sources say. Anthropic’s value before the investment is estimated at $15 billion. That value has already risen in the past year. In the spring of 2023, the company’s value was about three times lower.
Other recent investments
Anthropic, which former OpenAI employees once founded, did manage to raise a lot of capital from other tech giants recently. Google and Amazon, for example, invested $2 billion and $4 billion in the AI developer in recent months.
Recently, the company released version 2.1 of its Claude. The model is not yet accessible to users within the EU, but it is available in several countries elsewhere in the world, including the US and the UK.
