Apple’s value dropped during the recent period. That brings the company’s value more in line with Microsoft, which even has a chance to take over the title of most valuable company soon.

Apple’s shares have dipped because of concerns surrounding the decreased popularity of the iPhone. Only a small dip in the shares has been seen since the beginning of this year (4%), which is not an immediate problem due to the 48% increase in the value of the shares during 2023.

By the way, the main competitor to take over the title of most valuable company is also a major player in IT. It is Microsoft, whose shares have already increased 2 percent in value this year. This brings Microsoft’s total value to $2.873 trillion, while Apple’s is even higher at $2.866 trillion.

What’s on the planning?

Both companies have big announcements to look forward to in the coming year. For Apple, the launch of the Apple Vision Pro is getting closer. This is the company’s first mixed-reality headset. This device was officially announced back in 2023 but has since experienced setbacks in production capacity. More recently, the competitive field for headsets has increased. This is due to the announcement of Qualcomm ‘s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2, which simplifies headset development. Five competitors for the Apple Vision Pro have since come forward.

For Microsoft, the launch of Windows 12 is planned this year. Previous versions of the OS have shown that a less successful version is always followed up with an extremely successful version. So, with the disappointing adoption figures for Windows 11 in mind, Windows 12 is predicted to be a major hit.

The future looks brighter for Microsoft

Incidentally, another curious trend emerged from the most recent adoption figures for Windows 11. In December of 2023, Apple lost users to Windows and, thus, Microsoft. We already indicated that this loss may be due to Apple’s M2 chip, which could not deliver the performance that users were hoping for but for which they paid heavily.

The already declining interest in Mac devices and the iPhone, the problems before the launch of the Apple Vision Pro and the expected successful launch of Windows 12 make the future look brighter for Microsoft. That company, incidentally, has managed to snatch the title of most valuable company from Apple on previous occasions. That happened, for example, in 2021 when problems in the chip market had an adverse effect on Apple’s shares. For now, Apple has always managed to regain its position.
