Microsoft forces update on Windows 11 21H2 users

Microsoft is going to automatically update users of Windows 11 21H2 to a newer supported version. This is likely to be either 22H2 or 23H2.

In October 2023, users who still have their computers running on the Windows 11 21H2 version will get their last Patch Tuesday security update. After this, this version will enter end-of-life status. At issue are the Windows 11 Home and Pro editions.

Forced upgrade to latest version

After the latest update for Windows 11 21H2, Microsoft now indicates, these specific users will be forcibly migrated to the newer version of Windows 11. Right now that is the Windows 11 22H2 version, but it could also be the upcoming Windows 11 23H2 version.

The latter release should become available sometime in the fourth quarter of this year and is a minor “bump” update over 22H2.

Reason for this forced update is that the tech giant says it always wants to give the best security. In addition, Microsoft wants to ensure that Windows users can use their PCs at all times.
