SolarWinds Avior lets AI agents pursue IT goals independently

SolarWinds introduces Avior, goal-oriented AI for IT operations. Teams define a desired outcome, then role-based agents research, propose or execute actions, and measure the impact.

AI assistants typically answer questions within a product. Avior, by contrast, starts with the end goal. Administrators decide what they want to achieve, the scope, frequency, and data sources. They also define which actions are permitted and which require approval.

Then, role-based agents get to work. They gather evidence, formulate hypotheses, and test them. Next, they recommend a course of action or carry out an authorized action. Avior then measures the results again against a predetermined baseline. The result? A report indicating whether the goal was achieved, improved, remained unchanged, or worsened.

Network engineers first

Avior is a standalone SaaS application that works with both self-hosted and cloud environments, so customers do not need to migrate from self-hosted observability. The first integration focuses on SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted and the role of the network engineer, with Platform Connect as a prerequisite. Avior operates exclusively through supported product integrations and does not log in to random machines on its own.

Examples of objectives include reducing alert noise by correlating related events, minimizing configuration and compliance drift, and keeping configuration backups up to date. The system can also detect obsolete or unknown assets.

Autonomy per objective

Teams can start with read-only investigations, recommendations only, or dry-run workflows. They expand autonomy only later. For each objective, you can configure which actions require approval, and actions use the permissions of the linked SolarWinds account. Unknown or unclassified tools “fail closed” and await approval.

Do risks, missing permissions, or uncertainty call for human judgment? If so, Avior pauses and hands the task over to an employee. If data is missing or out of date, the system reports that it can’t confirm something. Rollback behavior does vary by workflow, SolarWinds recommends verifying this before enabling changes in production.

Eligible Advanced, Premier, and Essentials customers with Platform Connect can access early access. Availability, pricing, and supported targets may vary by release and customer program.
