Google temporarily gives users free access to G Suite Enterprise features. With this, it wants to support companies and schools in working from home, now that several organisations decide to let their staff and students work from home because of the coronavirus.
Users of G Suite and G Suite for Education will be able to use the functionalities of the Enterprise version until July 1, 2020. This includes being able to hold a larger meeting (up to 250 people) and live streaming (up to 100,000 viewers) with Hangouts Meet. The meetings can also be recorded and stored in Google Drive, so that they can be viewed later.
Google is thus responding to the problems caused by the coronavirus outbreak: many companies are encouraging employees to work from home, while schools are also closing their doors. To still hold important meetings (or give lessons), G Suite for Enterprises would be a handy option, according to Javier Soltero (VP of G Suite) in Google’s blog post:
“We want to do our bit to help employees, teachers and students who are increasingly working from home because of the coronavirus,” says Google.
Stealing the available premium features also gives Google an opportunity to win more users in the battle against services from Amazon and Microsoft. Both parties are competitors when it comes to the cloud business, which includes G Suite.
