Users of Microsoft Teams will soon need only one application of the video conferencing platform for both work and private accounts, the company recently announced in the release notes of its Insider program.
Starting this April, Microsoft is rolling out a new version of its Teams app for Windows and macOS that supports multiple accounts, be it work-related, school, or private. This will allow users to switch between different accounts, cloud environments, and users with just a few clicks.
Future features
Microsoft has also been improving notifications in the app over time. These will then better indicate to which Teams account they belong. Personalized notification banners will also show more details, making it easier to respond to alerts.
Further updates allow users to select their preferred account to join a meeting. Also, Microsoft will allow participants to join a Teams meeting without logging in first, simplifying access to the platform. Previously, Microsoft allowed Insider program participants to join a work-related meeting from their private account in the Teams app.
Windows Insider programs
Microsoft is already gradually rolling out the improved version of the app to participants in the Windows Insiders Canary and Dev channel programs. However, these participants must have Microsoft Teams version 24057.2000.2723.3544 or higher to do so.
The new app will also be rolled out in clean installs of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26080 and later builds.
Furthermore, this new version will soon be available in the Windows 11 24H2 update by default. This also means that the current standalone consumer application, Microsoft Teams (Free), will disappear from future releases.
