Neo4j adds a free tier to its cloud graph database offering

The company’s executives expect that the free tier will actually drive paid sales.

Neo4j this week announced the release of a free tier that it says any developer can use perpetually without paying a license charge.

Neo4j AuraDB Free is a tier of the company’s managed service that features one free useful graph database together with developer instruments for visualizing relationships between parts. The tier consists of built-in studying guides and one-click deployment together with cloud-native options like computerized upgrades and patching.

Neo4j launched Aura Enterprise in January. The database is a single-tenant occasion for safety functions and offers enterprise options like end-to-end encryption. It also delivers built-in digital non-public cloud isolation and role-based and node-level entry controls.

Cloud companies appreciate the open-source model Neo4j has been selling since 2007. But the company re-engineered these with cloud-native options. Managed service suppliers offer cloud variations of the open-source version, but users must manually maintain, patch and upgrade them. So says Ramanan Balakrishnan, Neo4j’s senior director of product advertising and marketing for cloud.

Neo4j says it offers much more than just a “free trial”

EBalakrishnan was quick to assert that there’s a transparent distinction between a free trial and a free tier. “A free trial generates leads, and what worth is generated is transient,” he claimed. “This method generates customers, who in flip turn into advocates, promoters, evangelists, educators and companions.”

The free tier has limits of one database and a maximum graph dimension of 50,000 nodes and 175,000 relationships. That should be sufficient for small projects, experiments and proofs-of-concept, Balakrishnan claimed. He then added: “when prospects are able to deploy in manufacturing they will develop to bigger databases with superior configurations, catastrophe restoration, safety and assist wants.”

Balakrishnan asserted that the company does not fear cannibalizing the low-end of its market with a free tier. “If prospects select to pause or change off a paid occasion and experiment, they’re welcome to take action with AuraDB Free,” he said.

Indeed, Neo4j expects the supply of a free choice to “dramatically enhance developer adoption, making graph databases an important a part of all fashionable clever purposes and analytics workloads.”
