Samsung unveils ‘advanced’ AI PCs: Galaxy Book4 Ultra, Pro, Pro 360

Samsung says it is entering the AI PC market with the Galaxy Book4 series. Thanks in part to the adoption of the latest Intel Core Ultra processors, the new Galaxy Book has specialized AI hardware on board for the first time.

Interestingly, Samsung has already started talking about AI on more fronts. For example, the upcoming S24 phone series is rumoured to be able to construct longer pieces of text based on a few keywords, in addition to improved text-to-speech and other features. Qualcomm, which built the SoC of the S23 series, is also leaning heavily into AI acceleration, both on smartphones and laptops.

“Samsung is committed to enriching people’s daily lives through the extended Galaxy ecosystem, in open collaboration with other industry leaders,” let TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung, know. “With the Galaxy Book4, Samsung fulfils an essential role in optimizing connectivity within the ecosystem. This will enable people to use their PC, phone, tablet and other devices in even more ways, enabling intelligent and connected experiences.”

Secure and AI-powered in multiple ways

Precisely what the AI PC can do remains to be seen in the future. Regardless, Intel has partnered with more than 100 software makers to take advantage of the new AI capabilities of Meteor Lake, the architecture of the latest Core Ultra processors.

The Galaxy Book4 will not only consult Intel for AI workloads. It will also utilize the Nvidia RTX 4070, a powerful laptop GPU we recently encountered in the Lenovo Yoga 9i, for extra AI peformance. Samsung cites Stable Diffusion as an application that’s already optimized for the Nvidia GPU.

Regarding the screen chosen, Samsung has opted for a Dynamic AMOLED 2X display that it deems suitable for productivity. That probably means that it has been factory-calibrated to display proper colour reproduction. AKQ Quad speakers will provide sound with Dolby Atmos.

Along with the new Galaxy Book4, Samsung is introducing what it calls Samsung Studio, a video editing tool that should be run on smartphones, tablets and laptops.

The Book4 series will become available in South Korea in January 2024, with other markets to follow.
