Western Digital has expanded the SSD lineup of its Blue line with a 2TB variant. The PCIe SSDs could be a solution for content creators because of their large capacity and high speed.

The WD Blue SN550 2TB, as the NVMe SD is called in its entirety, has an M.2 2280 form factor and a PCIe Gen3 x4 bus. With this standard size, along with the fact that the hardware is only on one side of the PCB, the SSD should fit in most M.2 slots.

Performance

Western Digital says that the SN550 2TB, which is based on TLC technology, can do read speeds up to 2600MB/s and write speeds up to 1800MB/s. The company doesn’t mention anything about IOPS performance.

The company has also not yet disclosed what the endurance of the new SSD should be like. However, it is known that the 1TB variant has an endurance of 600TBW. Presumably, the new 2TB variant should be able to handle roughly twice as much.

Price and availability

The recommended retail price of the WD Blue SN550 2TB in Europe is 317.99 euros. The SSD should be available immediately, but it doesn’t appear to be in stock anywhere yet.
