Will Apple make an iPhone 13 mini?

Small phone lovers will not be happy to hear this. The iPhone 12 mini sold poorly compared to other phones in the iPhone 12 series. The performance was dismal enough to prompt analysts to wonder whether Apple should be committed to a small-phone design in the future.

A data firm called Counterpoint Research found that the iPhone 12 mini only accounted for 5% of total sales from the lineup in early January, J. P. Morgan analyst William yang spoke to Reuters and said that screens under six inches account for only 10% of all smartphones sold.

The data speaks

Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) examined the iPhone 12 lineup sales in detail in January. The findings show that the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max accounted for about 20% of the sales from the large phones. The non-Pro version and the 6.1-inch version accounted for 27%.

CIRP also said that the iPhone 12 mini will likely be a disappointment for Apple with only 6% of sales during the period investigated, with corroborating numbers by Counterpoint months later.

Wave7 Research, another research firm, also estimated that the iPhone 12 mini accounted for 5% of iPhone 12 sales in the US.

Will there be an iPhone 13 mini?

Even though the data shows that the iPhone 12 mini has not performed well, it does not show us why.

According to CIRP’s data, the small iPhone SE performed better (probably because of the low prices) but it still does not make a huge chunk of sales.

Several people are vocal about the easy one-handed use of a small phone. However, it would appear that they form only a minority of the overall market. Only time will tell if we will get an iPhone 13 mini or not.
